500 km Endeavour Relay

From Friday 22 November to Sunday 24 November 2013 Nancy and I managed to get ourselves involved in the 500  km Endeavour Relay through our local runnung club. The relay roughly follows a route from Brisbane to Fernvale via the Sce enic Rim and was an opportunity to be part of an iconic endurance running event.
It started in 1980 when a group of athletes ran from Tamworth to Brisbane for charity.
This year the event has raised over $670,000 for Endeavour Foundation and celebrated its 31st Anniversary with 16 teams participating.
The relay has evolved into a 500km team endurance run which takes place annually over three days in November. Participants start running at the break of dawn and run non-stop in a relay until sunset.
Runners are tested physically and mentally by the challenging course and extreme heat of the Queensland summer.
The Race Director, Phil Hungerford, describes the 500km Team Endurance Relay as one of the most difficult and challenging events that runners encounter. It is the last event on the running calendar which means the runners are in prime condition and prepared for the gruelling conditions.
To register for the event you will need to form a team consisting of 16 – 22 runners. One person must be assigned as the ‘Team Manager’ who will be responsible for coordinating the team.

The relay was a blast!
