Agnes Water and the Town of 1770

Seventeen Seventy is a village in Queensland, Australia, built on the site of the second landing by James Cook and the crew of HM Bark Endeavour in May 1770. The village is a tourist destination on Queensland's Discovery Coast. It is situated on a peninsula, with the Coral Sea and Bustard Bay on three sides. Agnes Water, where we stayed, is eight kilometres to the south. The day cruise to the outer Great Barrier Reef, to nearby Lady Musgrave Island was it's main attraction.

After leaving the whale watching and touring of Fraser Island near Hervey Bay we were on the road early. We stopped at the visitor information booth on the way out of town to get info on what to see on our travels today. Susie did some shopping there, and we picked up postcards. We went through Childers - a lovely old town nestled in macadamia orchards.  We arrived at our little resort - 1770 Getaway - in the late afternoon. It was a lovely place with beautiful gardens and very friendly, helpful owners. We booked our reef tour and were directed to the kangaroo-spotting area and headed over at dusk. We saw kangaroos of all sizes and one with a nice big joey in her pouch. I made fish burgers with our barramundi for dinner and we had another round of card golf.

The next day was another lazy day! Everyone slept late as it rained gently outside. We then breakfasted on the deck, did laundry, facetimed home, etc. We went for a driving tour of the area - out to 1770 and the point. There were beautiful views and a lovely coastline. Very hot! We picked up our tickets for our tour - very exciting - and picked up some groceries for dinner. Lunch was scones with jam and cream on the deck, then reading, cross-stitch and naps while an afternoon thunderstorm moved in. It is a very quiet, peaceful place. Nancy  could get used to this! After supper of taco salad, cards we then broke open Nancy's bottle of rum for a nightcap.
