Hobart

With its heritage of transportation, penal colonies, merchants and servants juxtapositioned against the modern art of the MONA and activities such as the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, Hobart is a fascinating city nestled around one of the deepest and most scenic harbours in the world.  With only a single day in our schedule there simply wasn't enough time to do it justice but we managed to grab a hop-on, hop-off bus  tour of the city.  We had a sampler paddle of beers at the Cascade Brewery,

toured an old female convict factory - prison

and visited the Hobart Botanical Gardens.

After picking up a pizza for supper, we drove up the narrow, twisting roads of Mount Wellington -1270m above sea level - overlooking the surrounds of Hobart, its port and the Tasman Penninsula. It was nothing short of a spectacular view but I must admit that the drive was a little nerve racking for me as the camper van didn't have a predisposition for nimbleness and was more than a little underpowered. Sweaty hands at times!
